The function of the safety sensor, also known as electronic eye, is to prevent the door from closing in the event a person or object is underneath the door. If the sensor detects an obstruction underneath the door, it sends a signal to the automatic door operator to reverse the door and prevent it from closing.
A typical safety sensor setup includes two separate units each of which is mounted to the wall or floor on opposing sides of the garage door. One unit is the sender and the other unit is the receiver. The sender shoots a beam across the door entranceway and the receiver "receives" the beam. Breaking the beam triggers the sensor.

Safety sensors are essential components in an electric garage door opener system. We recommend periodic testing of the sensors to make sure they are working properly. The peace-of-mind gained from a professionally installed, safety-tested garage door opener is more than worth the modest cost of the A & M installation.
